Don't remind me again today

Ever wondered what open interest really means when you're tracking futures markets?

Open interest shows the total number of outstanding derivative contracts that haven't been settled yet. Think of it as a gauge for market activity and liquidity. Rising open interest? More traders are entering positions. Declining? Positions are closing out.

It's different from trading volume—volume counts every transaction, while open interest only tracks what's still active. Master this metric, and you'll better read market sentiment.

honestly oi divergence hits different when you're watching institutional flow patterns... most people just see the number go up and think moon 🚀 but nah, read between the lines fr

Those who really mix in futures have long known the importance of open interest. This thing is actually a barometer of market sentiment; I would say it's much more reliable than volume.

I previously misunderstood the open interest concept and thought it was the same as volume.

Open interest rise and fall can really reflect the market maker's thoughts. I often use this to judge when to withdraw.

OI is really easy to confuse for newbies, I also couldn't tell before... but once you get this point, it definitely becomes much smoother when watching the charts.

ngl, open interest is just the protocol's TVL for futures markets... once you see it through the lens of *financial alchemy*, everything clicks. the transmutation of capital into leveraged positions, y'know? bth the real magic happens when OI starts contracting—that's when the philosopher's stone loses its potency. volume vs OI distinction is chef's kiss tho, most degens miss this entirely

The opening position data basically shows how many people are still betting, and everyone who hasn't closed their positions counts. I usually look at this to judge whether the market still has momentum.

An increase in open interest means there are more bullish traders, and to be honest, this is a signal worth paying attention to.

ngl the open interest vs volume confusion has been plaguing retail traders for years... empirically speaking, most people still mix these up in their analysis and it shows in their position sizing lmao
