The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission ( SEC ) has released new guidelines to expedite the approval of cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds ( ETF ).

Against the backdrop of over 900 registration applications being backloged due to the suspension of government departments, the SEC implemented a mechanism for automatic approval within 20 days using the provisions of the 1933 Securities Act Section 8(a). This means that cryptocurrency ETFs such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Ripple (XRP) will be able to enter the market more quickly.

Despite simplifying the regulatory process, the SEC still prioritizes investor protection. According to the new guidelines, issuers can obtain automatic approval through Section 8(a), or apply for accelerated approval under Rule 461. This procedure ensures that issuers, underwriters, and advisors have a full understanding of their legal responsibilities, speeding up the approval process while enhancing investor protection.

The SEC emphasizes that fast approvals will not reduce legal liability and will strictly maintain the accuracy of registration documents and investor protection regulations.
