FATF Says Qatar Didn't Properly Enforce Its Crypto Ban
The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has urged Qatar Central Bank (QCB) to take more proactive measures in identifying and sanctioning virtual asset service providers (VASPs) that breach the crypto prohibition. Despite 2,007 transactions being rejected and 43 accounts closed, no formal sanctions have been applied. Qatar's central bank governor has pointed to the potential benefits of faster payments, and is exploring a digital riyal.
