The Japanese Prime Minister will propose measures to address the threat of North Korea stealing encryption assets at the G7 summit.

According to Japan’s Kyodo News Agency, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has decided to raise North Korea’s malicious actions such as stealing crypto assets through cyber attacks at the G7 summit held in Canada from June 15 to 17, and called on countries to strengthen coordinated response. North Korea is believed to have used illegally acquired crypto assets to finance the development of weapons of mass destruction, the sources noted. This may be the first time that the G7 has formally discussed this issue, and Ishiba intends to emphasize the importance of countermeasures at the meeting on the situation in the Indo-Pacific and strive for unity among member states. In addition, the report mentioned that some voices accuse China of assisting North Korea in monetizing crypto assets, and Japan and the United States have successively revealed that North Korean personnel have taken on IT jobs under false identities and transferred their remuneration back to North Korea.
