The ambition of the AO project is actually quite big.



Recently, I watched some in-depth interviews and found that what they want to do is far more than just a distributed computing network - the goal is to create a "planetary operating system" for AI Agents.

How to play specifically? Several key directions: let global nodes collaborate and work on their own, without the need for centralized scheduling; use Arweave as a permanent memory layer, ensuring data won't be lost; and treat the entire system as an on-chain OS for AI. The scale of nodes is also expanding, currently in the thousands, and in the future, it aims to reach millions.

In simple terms, it means wanting to create a "decentralized Earth supercomputer."

This path from academic papers to real-world application is indeed not easy. However, I find Sam's words quite pragmatic—AO is essentially an experiment to see if the internet can truly become a world computer.

It's hard to say whether it can succeed, but at least the direction is cool.

An Earth-level OS sounds a bit crazy, but to be honest, this kind of thing will eventually have someone playing with it. I just want to see how they really coordinate with millions of nodes without fighting each other. Anyway, it's much more sincere than the ambitions of most projects.

Ha, let's stabilize the thousands we have now before bragging. --- The Earth supercomputer sounds amazing, but I'm afraid it's just a utopia from papers. --- The permanent memory layer is indeed impressive, but who will foot the data cost? --- I've heard Sam's rhetoric too many times; the key is whether it can really run. --- Decentralized scheduling sounds great, but how will the actual network latency be resolved? --- It's interesting, but we have to wait for the ecosystem to really come alive to judge it. --- Another dream of a unified blockchain; will it end up in a deadlock again? --- Is the cost model for Arweave as a permanent storage layer clear? --- There is ambition, but do AI Agents really need such complex infrastructure? --- If this really happens, it will change the game rules, but the risks are terrifying.

A planetary supercomputer? Sounds romantic, but can it really run? AO and their team are definitely aiming high, but the gap between papers and actually deploying real nodes... I have my doubts. Millions of nodes? There are only a few thousand right now. That gap is massive. We'll have to see if they can really stabilize Arweave's permanent storage. Otherwise, no matter how cool the vision is, it's just an illusion. But at least they're trying—better than those projects that just shout slogans.
