Don't remind me again today

Big changes coming for UK crypto traders. From January 1st, 2026, every exchange operating in the UK will be required to collect comprehensive transaction data from their users. That data? It's heading straight to HMRC in 2027.

What does this mean practically? Tax authorities will have direct access to your trading history—every buy, every sell, every transfer. The goal is straightforward: cross-reference those records with tax returns and close the gaps where crypto tax evasion has been slipping through.

For exchanges, this means implementing new reporting infrastructure. For traders, it's a wake-up call that the days of crypto's regulatory gray zone are definitively ending. HMRC isn't playing around anymore.

Oh dear, the UK tax authority is going to dig out our transaction records one by one, and we have to report everything by 2027. There’s no way to hide now.

The gray area has shrunk, and the regulatory iron fist has arrived. The guys in the UK need to think about how to handle this. --- Oh my, is HMRC really going to put our trading records under a microscope now? Alright, the days of Clip Coupons are indeed coming to an end. --- To be honest, there is still a year and a half before 2027, everyone should take the opportunity to tidy up their accounts. This wave of regulation cannot be avoided. --- Losses will have to be justified with data... No gray areas, it feels like a bit of fun is missing. --- HMRC is not missing a beat, the transaction chain is fully transparent, the era of tax evasion is really over. For someone like me who keeps strict accounts, it has actually become easy.

If I had known earlier, there were already rumors in the UK. We retail investors really need to tighten our belts.
