Kevin Kelly’s Life Advice: In a life full of choices, we can all become the masters of our own destiny!

My biological clock is scarily accurate.
Last night, I was exhausted like a dog before 7 PM,
and at 4 AM sharp, I woke up and couldn’t fall back asleep.

Kevin Kelly says:
Life is all about choices,
so let’s start by choosing to record things,
like this book I finished on the plane—it’s pretty great!

For this long flight,
I brought Kevin Kelly’s “Excellent Advice for Living,”
an easy book to flip through.

It’s a collection of scattered life advice,
each from different stages of the author’s life,
sharing beliefs he considers valuable.

At first, I just wanted to skim it,
but the more I read, the harder it was to put down.

After finishing, I suddenly realized:
The core message the author wants to convey
is actually just one sentence:

Life is a matter of choices—

We can choose which path to take;
We can choose to be optimistic;
We can choose when to go fast, and when to slow down;
We can choose to change ourselves when needed;
We can choose to live each day with gratitude.

The moment we realize we have the right to choose,
we regain control of our lives.

1️⃣ Gratitude is a superpower for self-upgrading:

The author also says:
Our sense of gratitude can awaken all the good within us,
and it’s a skill that can be constantly improved.

When you actively record moments of gratitude every day,
you’ll find yourself noticing more and more good things around you,
life becomes more pleasing,
healing both yourself and others!

For example, my moments of gratitude today:

Grateful and cherishing the delicious meal and caring advice my parents gave me before departure;
Grateful for the insights I gained from conversations with 10K Clubs friends;
Grateful for BN’s thoughtful itinerary planning and airport pickup service;
Grateful for the Dubai hotel receptionist who remembered I stayed last year and greeted me with a welcoming smile.

While writing these,
I replayed the beautiful moments of the whole day in my mind.

2️⃣ Another example: what if you face procrastination at work?

Procrastination isn’t the problem—distraction is!

On the plane, I read an advice in the book that shocked me:
When you encounter procrastination, don’t resist it.
Make procrastination the most important task of the day.

Set a 5-minute countdown.
During these 5 minutes, do nothing.
Don’t work, but also don’t use your phone, chat, or scroll.

After 5 minutes, you’ll find:
You can’t wait to get started working.

Because what holds us back
isn’t that we don’t want to do things,
but that we want to do too many things.

The author says:
The biggest enemy of efficiency has never been procrastination,
but distraction.

That really makes sense.
When I read this part, it was a true lightbulb moment for me.

3️⃣ Conclusion: Choice is freedom

Every choice you make today determines your life tomorrow.

You can choose to ignore;
or you can choose to live the life you love.

If you’ve finished reading this and still don’t know what to do,
here’s my simplest advice:

Before you go to bed tonight, write down three moments you were grateful for on paper.
Practice your power of choice.
Practice your sense of gratitude.
Practice your ability to take control of your life.

Start from this moment.
