Must-read before entering: Web3 Beginner Awareness Checklist

We have already looked down from high above at the grand blueprint of Web3, the city of the future. Now you know its vision, how it differs from our current internet, and which technological layers it is built upon.

Before you excitedly pack your bags and officially step into this new city, I must, as a guide and friend, hold you back and hand you a very important “City Entry Guide.”

This guide is not about technology; it’s about awareness. It’s like your “survival instinct” and “code of conduct” in this new world. Please make sure to check off each item on the following awareness list in your mind. This will help you avoid 90% of the traps on your future journey.

Checklist Item 1: From today on, you are your own “bank president.”

In the old world, if you forget your bank card PIN, you can go to the bank branch with your ID, and customer service will smile and help you reset it. If your account is hacked, you can report it to the police, and the bank and police will investigate. There is always an “authoritative institution” behind the scenes providing protection.

But in the world of Web3, everything is completely different.

Your wallet is your bank: it is not managed by any company or institution; it is entirely your private vault.

Your private key/mnemonic phrase is the only key to your vault: this string of words is your sole proof of access to all your assets.

What does this mean? It means you have unprecedented, 100% control over your assets. But at the same time, you also bear 100% of the security responsibility.

If you lose your key or get scammed, no “Web3 bank” or “blockchain police” can help you recover. Your assets will be permanently lost, and even divine intervention cannot help.

So, engrain this first rule in your mind: I am my own bank president. Protecting my keys is my first duty when entering this world.

Checklist Item 2: The “pie” falling from the sky always comes with a “trap.”

Walking on the street, if a stranger enthusiastically runs up to you and offers to give you a free Rolex watch, what’s your first reaction? It’s definitely “This person is a scammer!”

Please amplify this precious vigilance a hundred times and bring it into the Web3 world.

Here, you will encounter:

  • Projects promising “annualized returns of 5000%,” the so-called “immortal projects.”
  • Private messages claiming you are the “chosen one,” with huge airdrops just a click away.
  • Fake project customer service pretending to help “solve problems,” asking you to share your screen or input your private keys.

All of these are tailor-made “digital Rolexes.” Their only goal: your wallet’s assets.

Please engrain this second rule in your mind: There are no fairy tales of overnight riches here, only carefully designed traps. Be extremely skeptical of any “free” or “high-yield” promises.

Checklist Item 3: Don’t be a “beggar,” be a “researcher.”

In today’s information explosion, we are used to listening to “experts” and following “big V” recommendations. But in Web3, blind trust is extremely dangerous.

The most wonderful thing about Web3 is its “openness and transparency.” Most project data, code, and transaction records are on the blockchain and can be checked. This gives us an unprecedented ability—do it yourself, verify everything (Do Your Own Research - DYOR).

When someone recommends a project to you, don’t rush impulsively. Learn to ask a few questions like a detective:

Have I looked at the project’s official website and whitepaper? What problem does it aim to solve?

Are the team members anonymous or real-name? What have they done before?

Have I checked its contract address on a blockchain explorer? Do the transaction data look healthy?

Is the community genuinely discussing the product, or just shouting slogans and spamming emojis?

Please engrain this third rule in your mind: Don’t trust blindly, verify. Learning to use basic tools is your “navigation device” and “magnifying glass” for survival here.

Checklist Item 4: This is the “Wild West,” not a “Theme Park.”

If you expect Web3 to be a stable, comfortable, and lucrative financial paradise, you may be very disappointed.

It’s more like 19th-century American West: full of opportunities, gold, and dreams, but also chaos, scammers, and lack of rules.

Price volatility is the norm: an asset worth 1,000 yuan today could be worth 2,000 tomorrow or only 200.

Project lifecycles can be very short: a hot project today might be abandoned in a few months.

Technology is still in experimental stages: even the best projects may have unknown vulnerabilities.

Please engrain this fourth rule in your mind: Participate with a mindset of “exploration” and “learning,” not “get rich overnight.” Only invest money and time you can afford to lose completely. Be patient and focus on the long term.

Well, my friend, have you carefully read and checked off this “City Entry Guide”?

Be your own bank president, beware of free lunches, research everything yourself, embrace uncertainty.

These four awareness points will be your most solid armor on your future Web3 journey. They will help you stay clear-headed when facing temptations and remain calm when encountering difficulties.
