x402 claims to simplify the payment process, but is this explanation really convincing?

Gas fees haven't disappeared; they've just been renamed—initially paid by the provider. This design works fine on a small scale, but once transaction volume increases, costs become a fixed expense. The key question is: who ultimately bears this cost?

Signatures are indeed lightning-fast, but final confirmation on the chain still takes time, usually 2 to 15 seconds. It doesn't sound long, but in the context of high-frequency trading, this window becomes a bit awkward.

Even more concerning is the infrastructure. HTTP connections must stay online continuously; if disconnected, you need to check status and retry, and also rely on intermediaries to help verify. This layered dependency seems to bring us back to the old Web2 way. The problem isn't solved—it's just wrapped in a different shell.

Another shell game, changing the name of the gas fee just to fool us? Do they really think we're fools?

It's the same old trick—gas fees are just a different disguise. Who ends up paying the bill in the end?

It's the same old trick of left hand to right hand. The gas fee issue really never ends. Basically, it's about shifting the costs to the providers. When transaction volume increases, it immediately breaks down. In the end, someone still has to pay the bill. And that 2 to 15 seconds confirmation window is really awkward in high-frequency scenarios. Compared to true decentralization, it's just a joke. The most outrageous part is the HTTP system—disconnect and reconnect, verifying through an intermediary. Isn't that still centralized? Just a different name.
