Technical Collaboration Background

BNB Chain has partnered with Brevis Expansion to develop a programmable privacy layer based on zero-knowledge proofs. This initiative aims to provide flexible privacy configuration capabilities for various users and compliance requirements.

This plan enables the network to go beyond traditional transaction privacy systems (which mainly focus on hiding sender, receiver, and amount) and instead design a framework that allows users to verify credentials without exposing complete wallet history or sensitive activity patterns.

According to the announcement, the privacy model is built around the following elements: what information to protect, how to selectively disclose protected data, and who can access the privacy mechanisms. BNB Chain states that this design approach allows privacy to operate as a programmable layer, where applications can choose which attributes to keep private while cryptographically proving certain conditions.

Smart Privacy Pool Implementation

BNB Chain and Brevis are collaborating with 0xbow to develop an Intelligent Privacy Pool, utilizing “Association Sets” and zero-knowledge proof verification. The pool facilitates private transfers by restricting access permissions, allowing deposits that meet predefined compliance requirements.

BNB Chain states that eligibility for private withdrawals will be proven through two methods:

  1. On-chain provenance verification: Using Brevis zero-knowledge data co-processor to prove funds originate from compliant sources
  2. Off-chain account verification: Through zkTLS, users can prove control over a verified account on a major exchange without revealing personal identities

Both methods use zero-knowledge proofs to confirm eligibility while protecting user data privacy. The association set model also includes a removal mechanism—if a deposit later becomes associated with sanctions risk or malicious activity, it can be excluded from the association set to prevent future private withdrawals.

Application Outlook

In addition to private transfers, the privacy layer may also support:

  • Fair prediction markets
  • Real user verification for SocialFi platforms (while maintaining position privacy)
  • Verifiable AI, trained on private data with proof-supported validation

The smart privacy pool is expected to launch on BNB Chain in Q1 2026.
