Vitalik urges Ethereum to accelerate quantum-safe protection and promote long-term autonomous operation capabilities of the protocol

Abstract generation in progress

【Crypto World】Ethereum co-founder Vitalik recently spoke out, pointing out that the threat of quantum computing can no longer be delayed and that immediate action is needed to reinforce cryptographic defenses. His core logic is very clear: Ethereum cannot always rely on developers to sustain it; it must truly achieve self-sustainability and self-evolution. In other words, the protocol should be mature enough that even if all core developers exit, the entire ecosystem can still operate stably.

A deeper consideration is the choice of application ecosystem. Vitalik emphasizes prioritizing support for applications with minimal trust—such as persistence tools, which can exist long-term and are less prone to failure; rather than applications that are highly dependent on service providers and prone to collapse. This reflects Ethereum’s thinking on how to transition from reliance to genuine decentralized and independent operation.

Quantum computing really needs to be prioritized, or it will be too late if something actually happens.

Quantum security is indeed something that can't be delayed, but it seems like Vitalik is always making big promises for the ecosystem. Actual implementation is the real key.

Quantum security is indeed something that needs to be prioritized; the risk factor of private key management will only increase. But to be honest, whether the self-sustaining ability is strong or not still depends on how the on-chain data performs.

Quantum computing power hasn't been widespread yet, and Vitalik is already planning ahead. The overall situation is indeed different. But to be honest, it's still about wanting the protocol to truly survive, rather than always relying on a few core developers to hold it together.
