The purchase volume of Bitcoin, listed companies surpass ETFs for three consecutive quarters

  • Publicly traded companies currently hold about 4% of the total supply of Bitcoin, while ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds) hold about 6.8%.
  • Companies introducing Bitcoin finance aim to differentiate themselves from others and attract new sources of funding and investor interest.

According to CNBC, publicly listed companies are rapidly accumulating Bitcoin reserves, purchasing more Bitcoin than ETFs (Exchange-Traded Funds) for three consecutive quarters.

The amount of Bitcoin held by companies increased by about 18% over the three months leading up to June 30, reaching approximately 131,000 BTC. According to data from Bitcoin Treasuries.net, the holdings in ETFs increased by 8%, totaling about 111,000 BTC.

According to CNBC, the ETF still holds the largest amount of Bitcoin among a single holding entity, with a holding of over 1.4 million BTC. This accounts for about 6.8% of Bitcoin's maximum supply of 21 million BTC.

The last time the ETF surpassed publicly listed companies in Bitcoin purchases was in the third quarter of 2024, before the re-election of President Donald Trump was confirmed. According to CNBC, by April 2025, despite market fluctuations due to President Trump's tariff announcements, the Bitcoin holdings of publicly listed companies increased by 4%, surpassing the 2% increase of the ETF.
