( Guidance Intent: Challenges and Prospects of Intelligent Web3 Interaction
In June, Paradigm published an article titled "Intent-Based Architectures and Their Risks" on its official website, bringing the concept of Intent) into the public eye for the first time. Related protocols and infrastructure rapidly developed and became a hot topic in the crypto community at the ETHCC conference in July.
Intent is not a new concept. As Mindao, the founder of DForce, stated, the crypto space has been engaged in extreme abstraction and automated operations, working on everything from aggregators, centralized exchanges, and contract wallets to cross-chain DeFi, as well as Chainlink, automated middleware, and the recent Telegram bot.
Intent has brought about new changes. In the past, product interaction was at the core, while in the AGI era, human-computer interaction is at the core. AI/large language models contain tremendous potential to enhance encrypted interactions.
01, Top-Down Anoma and Bottom-Up Unibot
In the past six months, agreements, projects, and infrastructures related to intentions have gradually gained popularity. This is not intended to explain the concepts verbatim, but rather to glimpse the whole picture through two typical cases.
Among the relevant projects, the most eye-catching is the Anoma Foundation, which completed its third round of financing of $25 million at the end of May 2023. In the context of severe homogeneity in Layer 1, the Anoma Foundation has raised a total of $57.8 million through three rounds of financing, thanks to its intent-centric architecture Anoma(Dapp full-stack architecture) and Namada( privacy Layer1), ranking 7th in financing amount among unlaunched Layer 1/Layer 2 projects.
Recapping Anoma's public speech at EthCC, founder Adrian Brink stated that Anoma's uniqueness lies in: all interactions start with intent, and the user's expressed intent is processed through Anoma's black box architecture (, also known as Magic Happens ), to realize the core transaction process based on intent interactions:
The Anoma team has identified the pain points at the underlying layer of blockchain protocols and reviewed how the architectural limitations from the first generation of Bitcoin's scriptable settlement and the second generation of Ethereum's programmable settlement have led existing application protocols to include at least one Web2 component, which cannot achieve counterparty discovery and resolution. The team believes that the intent-centric Anoma architecture is the third generation of Dapp architecture in the evolution of blockchain protocols, allowing users to define the desired outcome state, achieving efficient and customizable privacy transactions at the intent level, thus opening a new era.
Anoma, with high financing and a new technological architecture, is currently being built by a team of 37 interdisciplinary members from the Heliax development team. Although the Heliax development team has made slow progress over the two years of development, they have formed a complete innovation ecosystem.
Although institutions like CMCC Global, Electric Capital, and Delphi Digital are enthusiastic about Anoma and claim that its intent-centric architecture has unlimited future potential, Anoma has only established a solid technical foundation from the top down, and no exciting applications have emerged yet. On the other hand, TG Bot has opened up the imaginative space for the implementation of intent segmentation scenarios with its on-chain automated trading tools.
Unibot is a trading bot based on Telegram (TG Bot), allowing users to conduct automated DEX trading through Telegram, and provides features such as sniper buying, copy trading, DEX limit orders, privacy, and anti-MEV. Unibot replaces the cumbersome interactions of Uniswap based on Intent, offering a convenient DeFi interaction experience. Unibot has also spawned a number of TG Bot clones, and the current total market value of the TG Bot track has approached 200 million USD.
Top-down Anoma is innovation, while bottom-up TG Bot is transformation. Top-down Anoma starts from an intent-based underlying architecture, but the team's progress is slow; although TG Bot provides users with a new on-chain interaction interface, it is not intelligent and has many security risks.
The two paths that lead to the same destination have a common goal - to simplify user interaction experience and introduce a new programmable, customizable user interaction interface - User Intent Layer (, which allows users to bypass complex on-chain interactions and define transaction status based on user intent.

02, AI is the new UI: Command Interaction vs Intent Interaction
The above two use cases give us a basic understanding of intent. Next, we will explore the changes brought about by AI behind the intent at the fundamental level of the crypto world—the transformation of user interfaces.
The AI paradigm is introducing the third user interface paradigm in the history of computing, shifting towards a new interaction mechanism where users tell the computer what they want rather than how to do it.
Every revolution in interaction modes throughout history has given rise to entirely new business models. LLM-based generative AI brings disruptive changes to human-computer interaction, directly transforming the traditional interactions with various software UIs into interactions through the Chatgpt chat window, providing an unprecedented interactive experience. LLM + crypto introduces a new proposition based on intent interaction in the crypto world, and LLM has the potential to make blockchain interactions smarter by discovering and describing user intentions.

03. The Evolution of the Concept of Intent, Interaction Paradigms, Current Status and Trends
After gaining a deep understanding of the trend of AI intelligence behind intentions, we further explore the evolution of the concept of intention. Intention is not a new concept; it has existed since the Web2 era. With the rise of search engines like Google, users can input their intentions, and the search engines provide relevant results to satisfy those intentions.
With the rise of e-commerce platforms like Amazon and eBay, there has been a significant shift in intent-based architecture. Users can now express their intent to purchase products, while the platform takes care of logistics. In early 2017, Gartner released a report titled "Innovation Insight: Intent-Based Networking Systems" which formally introduced the concept of intent-based networking )Intent-based Networking(. The key is to present users with an interface where they only need to express what they want, and the platform will handle the business details.
Intent-based networking is the trend of network automation and intelligence in the Web2 era. Andrew Lerner, Vice President of Research at Gartner, pointed out in 2017 that intent-based networking would be the next milestone in the field of networking.
In the evolution from Web2 to Web3, the concept of intent in Web3 is not clear, but there are some common understandings:
In real use cases of intent-based transactions in Web3, users create intents off-chain, outsource to a resolver off-chain, encapsulating the complexity of blockchain interactions for the resolver, while retaining full control of the process on-chain, thereby lowering the threshold for on-chain interactions.
The intent also brings the concept of LLM architecture - an architecture centered around user intent ) intent centric (. Currently, the crypto protocols and infrastructure related to intent centric are embedded in the interaction layer between users and Crypto, leveraging LLM to provide a better on-chain interaction experience.
LLM+Crypto brings a new paradigm of human-machine interaction, allowing direct conversion of user intent into smart contract calls. Users only need to express their intent like using Apple's Siri, while robots/AI Agents/third-party parsers help complete complex on-chain operations. In the future, intent-based Web3 interaction intelligence has the potential to greatly reduce the complexity of user on-chain interactions.

More and more Web3 projects are exploring the magic of intent. Whether it's intent-based Dapps or intent-based underlying architectures, they are unlocking the potential of intent from different angles. We attempt to organize this rapidly evolving field and categorize it into four major categories from an interaction perspective, tracking the latest status and trends:
Infrastructure ) Intent-Centric Intent Architecture Layer (:
