The Base team will upgrade the infrastructure after the network failure.

On August 5, block production on the L2 network Base was halted. The outage lasted for 33 minutes. The project team published a report with details of the incident.

The cause was an error in the automatic Conductor system, which is responsible for the stability of the network. Due to high activity, the main sequencer started to operate with a delay. The system attempted to transfer control to the backup, but it was not yet fully configured and could not create blocks.

Due to a configuration error, the new faulty sequencer was unable to initiate the retransmission of control. This led to a complete halt of the network.

The engineers manually disabled the Conductor system to stop automatic switching. They then selected a functioning sequencer and handed control over to it — the network operation was fully restored.

The developers promised to update the infrastructure. The changes guarantee that any sequencer in the system will be able to correctly hand over control in the event of a failure. The team will test and implement fixes in the near future.

Recall that in July, Base activated the Flashblocks update, which reduced the block creation time from two seconds to 200 milliseconds.

Later, the platform surpassed Solana for the first time in launched coins.
