Report: SBF requests weekday release to prepare plea

According to his legal team, the SBF cannot be expected to review all charges against him in prison.

Less than two weeks after a court revoked Sam Bankman-Fried's bail, his legal team is calling for his freedom to be restored on weekdays, arguing that the prison's confines are surprisingly too restrictive and fail to provide him with the necessary conditions. Get well prepared for the upcoming trial.

Inappropriate conditions

SBF's coveted $250 million bail was vacated on Aug. 11 after the leak of Caroline Ellison's private diary and other inappropriate liaisons with former FTX associates, which the trial judge argued tampered with the conduct of witnesses.

As a result, Sam has been spending ever since at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, which is said to be one of the worst prisons in New York City.

In addition to the plastic-rich food, poor plumbing, and too many residents, the detention center also has a library full of cheap novels, which might be the idea behind the SBF's plea for a new identity for weekend offenders.

While incarcerated at the MDC in Brooklyn, SBF was unable to obtain and review a barrage of evidence he had to answer in October, according to SBF's lawyers.

"Just last week, the government produced three-quarters of the Slack newsletter that should have been produced months ago, but Mr Bankman-Fried will have no hope of reviewing it against this timetable."

In return, prosecutors accused SBF of being slow to come up with a defense strategy in the first place. As a result, the Prosecutor’s Office has demanded that SBF be disqualified from using its planned defense strategy that his actions during his tenure as head of FTX were the result of his reliance on attorneys if he did not submit all information related to this.

Workday Free Alternative

After hearing from both parties, Judge Kaplan declined to rule in SBF's favor. Instead, he asked for an alternative solution to the document review problem.

One option is to provide all the files on the hard drive and deliver them to Brooklyn MDC. However, this was rejected as not feasible.

The second suggested alternative is to move the SBF to a smaller jail in the county, where Internet access can be provided under supervision. Prosecutors and prison officials, however, balked at the idea.

For now, SBF will remain held at the same facility pending further review of his situation by Judge Kaplan.
