There is a New Development in the Government Shutdown Crisis in the USA! With Critical Hours Left, the Expected Happened
The U.S. Senate has taken decisive action toward passing a Republican-backed spending bill, effectively eliminating the threat of a U.S. government shutdown.
But the move has sparked fierce divisions within the Democratic Party over how to counter President Donald Trump's efforts to expand executive power.
The Senate approved the financing package by a vote of 62-38, putting Democrats in Congress in a position to abandon what they see as their strongest trump card to constrain Trump and billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk's aggressive cost-cutting measures, including drastically reducing the federal workforce and dismantling all government agencies. With legislative options dwindling, opponents are expected to shift their efforts to legal battles in the courts.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer played a critical role in the decision-making process. With less than 30 hours to go before the lockdown expires, the veteran lawmaker announced that he would withdraw his party's block on the spending bill, prioritizing continuity of government services over political bickering.
Schumer's reversal would represent a significant victory for Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson, paving the way for the final approval of the spending measure. The bill ensures that Musk's newly formed Office of Public Efficiency retains the authority to make sweeping budget cuts while securing government funding through the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30.
Trump's tariff policies have triggered widespread investor uncertainty, while the political stalemate has coincided with turmoil in financial markets. By Thursday, the S&P 500 had entered a correction, losing more than 10% in three weeks. However, news that the Senate is making progress on the spending bill led to a 2% rebound on Friday.
On the ballot, nine Democrats and one independent allied themselves with almost all Republicans in the Senate, surpassing the required 60-vote threshold and securing the bill's passage by a simple majority later in the day.
