The United States can buy more Bitcoin. On Tuesday, David Sacks, head of crypto and AI at the White House, praised the Trump administration's aggressive push to reshape U.S. cryptocurrency policy, including reversing years of apparent regulatory hostility and delivering on campaign promises within 100 days of taking office.During an interview at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas, Sacks discussed a series of initiatives supporting Bitcoin that Trump has taken since taking office, including the establishment of a strategic digital asset reserve, while hinting that the government could purchase more assets. He stated: "If it can be done in a budget-neutral way—specifically, if the Department of Commerce or the Department of the Treasury can find ways to fund it without increasing debt—then they can create these projects."Although the executive order indicates that the reserve will be funded by Bitcoin already owned by the U.S. Treasury (seized in criminal or civil asset forfeiture proceedings), Sacks mentioned that the executive order establishing a strategic Bitcoin reserve indeed allows the government to purchase more Bitcoin.
