Miami Mayor Suarez is not concerned about the significant fluctuation in Bitcoin prices during market fluctuations.
Despite the recent fluctuations in the crypto assets market, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez remains committed to his decision to accept Bitcoin as part of his salary. In an interview with Fox Business, Suarez stated that he is not worried about Bitcoin recently falling below $100,000, and noted that since he began receiving his salary in Bitcoin when its price was $30,000, his Bitcoin income has grown by approximately 300%. He also emphasized that when Bitcoin's price reaches $120,000, his income will soar to 400%, highlighting his deeper concern for crypto assets as a store of value rather than daily market fluctuations. Mayor Suarez is known for his friendly attitude towards crypto assets and focuses more on the development of Decentralized Finance, crypto assets, and artificial intelligence rather than the short-term price fluctuations of Bitcoin. He decided at the end of 2021 to accept Bitcoin as part of his salary, which was seen as a bold move, especially given the unclear regulatory environment for crypto assets in the U.S. at that time. Suarez announced his plan to receive his salary in Bitcoin for the first time in November 2021, aiming to become the first state or federal legislator to do so. Although there is some controversy surrounding the value trajectory of Bitcoin, Suarez has been an active supporter of the crypto assets market since December 2020, having already held Bitcoin and Ethereum before receiving a salary in crypto assets.
