Recently, the crypto community has been discussing a perennial yet very concerning issue—address poisoning scams. Some investors have lost as much as $50 million in a single incident due to this scheme, a figure that truly serves as a wake-up call.
The scammers' tactics are quite routine: they first send a small amount to you to lower your guard. Then, many people, in an effort to save time, copy that address directly from their wallet to make a transfer, unaware that they are actually copying a scam address. By the time they realize, the funds have already been stolen by the scammers.
Currently, several feasible defensive strategies have been proposed. One is to strengthen warning mechanisms on the wallet side, identifying suspicious addresses and alerting users directly. Another is to establish a "blacklist" system, marking known scam addresses. Additionally, wallets should automatically filter out low-value junk transactions to prevent these "bait" transactions from mixing into legitimate activity.
Speaking of scams, address poisoning is just one type. Phishing attacks are also becoming increasingly rampant. Data shows that in November alone, victims lost $7.7 million due to phishing attacks.
Therefore, protecting yourself in this ecosystem is truly crucial. Stay vigilant, avoid blindly copying addresses, and regularly check for abnormal activity in your wallet—these basic precautions are essential.
