Ethereum Layer2 project Eclipse recently underwent leadership changes. Founder Neel Somani announced his resignation as Executive Chairman, deciding to focus on machine learning and academic research, effective October 2025.
This personnel adjustment coincides with a major transformation at Eclipse—the company is shifting from a purely infrastructure-oriented approach to application development. Prior to this, Somani and the board drove this strategic shift and appointed Sydney Huang as CEO.
Since taking office, Sydney Huang has straightforwardly stated that Eclipse's future focus must be on a single application, "not several, nor all deployed applications." This new application is set to be unveiled next month. Moving from simply building Layer2 infrastructure to creating core application products, Eclipse's move reflects a new trend across the entire Layer2 track—more and more projects realize that having good infrastructure alone is not enough; developing killer applications is the true breakthrough.
