On September 18, Jin10 reported that the Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives cleared the way for a vote later this week on a temporary funding bill aimed at avoiding a partial shutdown of the federal government in two weeks. Lawmakers passed a measure by a vote of 216 to 210 that allows the House to begin debate on the temporary bill, which would fund federal agencies until November 21, giving the House and Senate more time to reach an agreement on a comprehensive appropriations bill for the fiscal year 2026 beginning October 1. Republicans hope to pass the temporary funding bill and send it to the Senate for consideration by Friday. The bill also needs to be passed by the Senate and signed by President Trump to become law. The Republicans control the Senate with a 53 to 47 seat advantage, and this temporary bill, known as a Continuing Resolution (CR), needs 60 votes to pass in the Senate, while Democrats oppose the bill and are working on an alternative.
